Please note this is NOT a formal audition or casting call. Due to ongoing public health concerns regarding COVID-19, The Slutcracker will be streaming, on demand, a feature-length movie cut from our 2019 archival footage rather than mounting live performances.
WTF is this?
The Slutcracker has run 12 seasons of its burlesque ballet in a historic, Vaudville-era, 850-seat theater. We welcome and encourage diverse dancers/actors/performers to participate; The Slutcracker includes several dance genres, embraces all body types, welcomes all identities and expressions and cultural orientations. All auditioning must be 18+ and must have some background in dance/movement/performance art.
Turn up and try out
For the 2020 Mock Audition, all participants must roll out of bed and sign in to a Zoom session on Sunday, October 11, at 3:00 pm EDT (link will be emailed upon registration). Because of the current world circumstances, this audition is designed for you to attend from your own space, be it patio, bedroom, garage, studio, or park. All you need is you, your video streaming device and something sturdy to sit on. You will be led through a warm-up, a series of brief combinations using primarily ballet and jazz techniques and then taught a longer dance combination to be performed in small virtual "groups" for the director. We will keep the format as close as we can to our typical audition, except in this Mock Audition you will have the opportunity to try on the experience with no pressure, and to learn about the process and expectations from the director herself.

3:00-5:00pm Warmup 30 min; ballet & jazz exercises 30min; chair dance choreo 30 min; Group showings (optional) 30 min.
